Your Excellency Sir,
Chief Barr Ezewo Nyesom Wike, OON, POS
The Executive Governor, Rivers State.
OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, CHIEF BARR E. N. WIKE OON, POS AFRICA, GOVERNOR RIVERS STATE, ON THE STATE OF IGBOH ETCHE ROAD.
I write to draw your attention to the uncondonable borrow pit nature of Rumuokwurusi Igboh Etche road in Etche Local Government Area of the state.
Your excellency sir, you will recall that you awarded the road in question to WEE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY around July 2017 from Eleme Junction to Chokocho junction.
On a normal circumstance, from Eleme Junction to Igboh Etche is less than thirty minutes drive. Because of Igbo Etche’s proximity to Rivers State capital, the area have witnessed a massive inflow of population explosion in terms of urban-rural migration thereby making the area a semi urban city in recent years.
Your excellency sir, it might interest you to note that a journey that should take one less than thirty minutes, now take more than two hours at least going through Chokocho – Ikwuruta – Eneka – Rumuokwurusi to Eleme Junction with its attendant high cost of trans fair.
This very road when it was motorable served as alternative route to both private and commercial motorist going to east, west and north part of Nigeria. Unfortunately, this all important road is at the mercy of hoodlums who uses the bad spots to perpetuate all manner of heinous crimes hence, accomplishing their nefarious activities. As a result, many motorist have deserted the road due to its bad nature.
The actualisation of the statement you made in the mid of 2021 during your visit to Abonnema on ‘urban-rural migration’ should as a matter of urgency begin with the fixing of this very road considering its proximity to Rivers state capital.
Since the inception of your government as governor, I have followed with kin interest over your speeches in different fora where you have avered of your commitment and determination to develop Rivers State and empower its people.
This road will serve as a litmus test to ascertain if you truly mean what you say or not.
