ROTIMI AMAECHI: Forward with Courage

It is not a fluke that Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (CRA) chose and adopted the mantra “FORWARD WITH COURAGE” as a campaign slogan. The hallmark of his political experience has been bold, courageous and forward-looking leadership that has endeared him to the people and distinguished him from the rest in public service. It is this exceptional quality that CRA will bring to bear as President; Nigerians should therefore not expect anything less if and when CRA is elected to serve in that capacity.

Courage is a leadership quality reserved not for the weak and cowardly but for strong leaders with hearts of steel; leaders who are not easily swayed by their emotion but allow their judgment to be guided by facts and data rather than issues that may sway their hearts. A review of CRA’s leadership decisions and actions has repeatedly demonstrated that he is a courageous leader.

Closely associated with courage is the need for a leader to be healthy and strong. Though largely unnoticed, the long treks he undertook as Minister of Transportation to inspect rail tracks being laid in bushes across the country are significant indicators of his physical health status. A courageous leader must be healthy in the mind, body and be physically strong to confront multifarious leadership challenges. We have witnessed in the last two decades how CRA has not only endured the rigours and challenges of office but has remained in sustained fitness and good health in readiness for the huge responsibility and demands of the office of the President.

To demonstrate his physical fitness and preparedness for the job, CRA ran around the Port Harcourt city stadium the day he officially declared his presidential ambition. That exercise was a huge statement and a rare feat never experienced in our political history. It is not surprising that at age 57, CRA like a young stallion bubbling with strength is jetting across the country holding consultative meetings with Party delegates and stakeholders. As I write CRA has visited about 30 of the 36 states of the federation.

Unlike many of his fellow contenders, CRA was warmly received and welcomed with open arms by leaders of the Party in all of the states he has visited so far. He is welcomed not as a first-time visitor but as a friend who had visited the different states twice on a similar mission although in the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari whose Presidential campaign organization, he (CRA) served as Director General at both the 2015 and 2019 general election cycle.

Wherever he goes, the man Rotimi Amaechi (as he is fondly called) is a household name and needs no extensive introduction; firstly because of his affiliation with the emergence and acceptance of the Muhammadu Buhari presidency. Secondly, his contribution to the Administration as a former Minister of Transportation responsible for the current renaissance in our rail and water transportation infrastructure.

CRA’s extensive political reach, goodwill and acceptability across board is not in doubt. As in Akwa Ibom, Katsina, Kwara, Oyo, Imo states etc; Amaechi does not need any introduction to be recognised and acknowledged as a frontline contender for Nigeria’s presidency. In every state he has visited and consulted the traditional institutions, Party stakeholders and delegates, it ends always in praise and prayers for a well-deserved success at the 2023 presidential election.
